STUDIO MUSEUM OF HARLEM: COLLECTED, PROPOSITIONS ON THE PERMANENT COLLECTION [KALUP LINZY: if it Don't Fit] OPENING 4.1.09 HARLEM, NYC
STUDIO MUSEUM IN HARLEM,... LIKE A ANOTHER MAGAZINE "UPTOWN", HAS A DOUBLE COVER FOR THE SPRING STUDIO MAGAZINE WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA AND A ART PIECE BY FINE ARTIST ROMEARE BEARDEN....
IF YOU CAN EVER GET A COPY OF ANY OF THESE INSIGHTFUL STUDIO MAGAZINES, IT WOULD BE MORE THAN WORTH IT TO HAVE IN YOUR PERSONAL LIBRARY.
THE EXHIBIT, COLLECTED, PROPOSITIONS ON THE PERMANENT COLLECTION, IS A VERY LARGE AND WONDERFUL EXHIBITION OF THE STUDIO MUSUEM IN HARLEMS PERMANENT COLLECTION.
I HAVE ONE OF MY WORKS IN THIS EXHIBIT, TITLED "SUPERNATURAL THING" EVEN THOUGH THIS PIECE IS PART OF DANNY SIMMONS PERMANENT ART COLLECTION. I WAS ASKED TO BE A PART OF THE EXHIBIT... I WAS TRULY HONORED FOR THE OPPURTUNITY.
WHEN I FIRST CAME TO THE BUILDING, I WENT STAIGHT TO THE STUDIO MUSEUM GIFT SHOP TO SAY HI TO JAMIE GLOVER AND TO SEE HOW MY TEA'S WERE SELLING.
I SAW A EXCITING COLLECTION OF HAND CROCHET HATS BY A 3 GENERATION CROCHET DESIGNER/BUSINESS WOMAN, PAULRTTE JEMMOTT-WILEY. SHE IS A PRODUCT OF HER CROCHETING MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER....
PLEASE GO TO HER WEB-SIGHT WWW.DALIASOLEIL.COM AND CHECK HER OUT, SHE IS AN AMAZING CRAFTS WOMEN. SHE DESERVES AN A++ IN MY BOOK.
THIS IS THE LOVELY DESIGNER, IT WAS MY OVERSIGHT TO NOT INCLUDE HER DAUGHTER IN THE PHOTO BECAUSE HER DAUGHTER IS THE INSPIRATION FOR HER VERY SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS.
PAULETTE'S CHOICE''S AND COMBINATION OF COLORS WORKS WILL WITH ANY SKIN TONE. ... HER WORK HAS TO BE VIEWED IN PERSON, SO THAT YOU CAN SEE HOW WELL STRUCTURED THESE HATS ARE. I CAN REALLY SEE THE EFECTS OF 3 GENERATIONS IN EVERY STITCHE. SHE ALSO HAS A ETSY STORE dahliasoleil.etsy.com
A WONDERFUL CHARMINGLY FUNKY CROCHET HAT. A REAL NICE ADDITION TO THE EXPANDING FUNKY URBAN AESTHETIC.
HERE ARE TWO MASTERFULLY KNITTED HEAD WEAR....
SHE'S GOT THE LOOK:
SPOT LIGHTING ANOTHER SUPERNATURAL STYLING HER URBAN LOOK AT STUDIO MUSEUM OPENING.
A COOL, RICH, FUNKY LOOK.
I SPOKE WITH THIS BEAUTIFUL QUEEN MOTHER, WHO IS A MEMBER OF THE STUDIO MUSEUM,
SHE WAS WEARING THIS STUNNING CROCHET HEAD PIECE THAT SHE WAS WEARING LIKE A CROWN, I HAD TO ASK ABOUT THIS WORK.
IT REMINDED ME OF THE CROCHET WORK THAT I SAW BACK IN THE 1980'S, BEFORE I KNEW HOW TO CROCHET. THIS WAS THE HIGH SKILL OF CRAFTSMENSHIP, URBAN AESTHETIC, PATTERN DESIGN AND CHOICE OF NATURAL COTTON YARNS, THAT INSPIRED THE WORK THAT I DO TODAY.
I DO NOT SEE THIS QUALITY OF WORK ANY MORE, IT USED TO BE SO COMMON IN THE COMMUNITY, AFTER THE CULTURAL REVOLUTION AND THE BLACK ARTS MOVEMENT IN THE 1960'S.
SHE TOLD ME, THAT THIS MASTERFUL COLLECTOR ITIEM WAS INDEED FROM THE 1980'S.... IT WAS WONDERFUL TO STUDY THIS STRIKING WORK OF ART.
SHE TOLD ME SHE PAID $20.00 FOR IT,... THAT WAS "BACK IN THE DAY" WHEN RENT WAS $250.00 FOR A TWO BEDROOM APARTMENT IN A BROWNSTONE IN BROOKLYN, THAT WAS SPECIAL ERA FOR THE "PEOPLE"...
SHE TOLD ME THAT THE ARTIST THAT CROCHET IT HAD PASSED ON.... BLESS HER BEAUTIFUL SOUL.
